Why sewerage pipes get blockedSewerage pipes are typically 6 inches or more in diameter allowing for easy flow. Most sewage blockages are the result of the incursion of tree roots into the sewerage pipes. The warmth and moisture inside the sewerage pipes attracts the tree roots which send out feelers through the tiny cracks or loose joints into the pipes. Once inside, the roots feed on the nutrients in the sewage and before long they grow into a mesh of roots that obstruct debris and blocks the water flow. The obstruction builds more quickly as the water flow slows allowing debris to settle in the pipes. |
